Dear Mr. Parrott,
I agree with your philosophy of patrolling the less urban areas. I am particularly concerned about the Steven Taylor Industrial Park because currently it is not patrolled. This has been a problem for the businesses there and there have been break ins and vandalism. How will the department be able to handle all of the areas with, I understand, so few officers?

I also agree with getting rid of the window tinting. I live in Krebs and I really dislike the very dark tint they have on the cruisers. I recently moved from Arizona, and we actually have laws against dark window tint. It works both ways. I feel it is dangerous for Officers to approach a vehicle with dark tinted windows. I also am a believer in "profiling" because that is what officers are trained to do and we all instinctively do this as a natural defense. Is there any way that you might create or support a bill concerning window tint for all Oklahoma citizens as well as the Officers?

Thank you for your time!

Christina, thank you for voicing your concern's. I agree with you that the Industrial Park need's patroling by law enforcement. As Sheriff I will order my Deputy's to patrol all rural area's. I do not believe that a sheriff's dept presence is required inside Mcalester city limits. The City of Mcalester has a very capable and proffessional Dept and do not require our deputy's patroling in town. I believe our deputy's should be out in the rural area's of Pittsburg county patrolling. Concerning the excessive dark tinted windows. There are great concern's about officer safety while driving in poor visibility. Not to mention a darkened window can greatly hamper a deputy's ability to spot a crime while patroling.

You mentioned lawsuits against the current Sheriff. 1: How would you handle a complaint by a citizen against any deputy or staff? You mentioned equality improvement between genders. 2:Would you try to improve the minority employment rate at the Sheriff Dept and if so how? 3:What about female deputies who work the field?

Good morning and thank you for your comments. I take complaints very serious. Because of my prior law enforcement experience , I can relate to complaints made by the public. My philosophy is to go the extra mile and address any complaint as if it was your own mother making the complaint. I do not believe it is fair to female inmates that they are not allowed the same priviledges as the male inmates. Women are just as capable as men to work in the jail with the laundry, cooking or mowing grass. I believe in hiring any person qualified for a position and not to base their race, sex ,religion or political party affiliation as one of their qualifications. I have worked with female deputy's in the past and believe they are just as capable deputy's as men are. I know that in certain situations, just the presence of a female officer can help defuse a volital situation.

Hey do you support the citizen arrest law? Seems like over the years I have talked to different police about it and to some it makes them mad and others it is accepted. FOX 23 said that Oklahomans can make citizen arrests. I only know about it because some guy told me years ago. I have never seen a person do that. I have seen where person stop robberies by taking on the robber stuff like that. Yet To make a citizen arrest I have not even seen. So would you support that law and would it help the authorities if more people did that? Thanks!

Hello and thanks for the comments. I believe in citizens arrest and the right of the citizen to protect their person and property. If a situation warrants a person to make a citizens arrest I support that, so long as it is done according to Oklahoma law. I would encourage any citizen to research the law relating to citizens arrest before actually arresting another citizen.

Mr. Parrott,
I live in Krebs and they have passed an ord. against chaining a dog in the yard. I agree with this completely. Is this controlled in the county? Are there any laws against puppy mills and animal abuse? I want to know how you feel about this and how the dept. handles mistreatment of domestic animals, including livestock. Thank you!

I am not familiar with kreb's city ordinance, Sheriff's dept does not enforce city ordinance to the best of my knowledge. I agree with enforcing Oklahoma State Statute when it come's to animal cruelty. There are severe penalty's for any person convicted of animal cruelty. As a former deputy in Pittsburg county, I worked hand in hand with local organizations like PAWS. I believe in prosecuting any person guilty of animal cruelty. So called puppy mills are licensed and regulated by the State.

Hi Tracy, I am really glad that you are taking the initiative and asking peoples opinions. As you know I am a former dispatcher and currently still in Law Enforcement and a big problem I am hearing from citizens of Pittsburg county is when they are calling into the Pittsburg County Sheriffs Department and needing a deputy they are being told without hesitation they do not have one available. I know you will address this issue and can't wait to see you take care of the current problem running loose in that Sheriffs Department!
